Due to complexities this year around approvals and travel restrictions, the InterLab committee has decided to move InterLab 2013 to the first or second week of August. Please stay tuned for details and thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the kinks!

InterLab 2013 Updates for February

We are excited to announce that the InterLab 2013 Web Collaboration Workshop is set for June 3-6, 2013, hosted by Sandia National Laboratories at the Sheraton Uptown in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Save the date! Here’s some things to know and prepare for as the date approaches:

  • Put in your conference travel requests to your lab management ASAP. While you don’t need to book flights or hotels yet, many labs are requiring some sort of approval process to allow travel to these sorts of events. The good news is that we have costs well below the DOE’s $100K threshold and plan to offer an informative yet cost-effective event.
  • Conference registration costs per attendee is expected to be $400 or less.
  • Event will be held at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown. We will have a block of 50 rooms reserved at the per diem rate of $81. Book by May 12th to get the per diem rate.
  • Evening events will include a Monday informal group tram excursion to Sandia Peak, a Tuesday night reception at the Sheraton Uptown, and a Wednesday night gala event at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History.
  • The Sheraton Uptown is in a very walkable neighborhood with access to shopping and restaurants, and you could easily get by without the need of a car to save on costs. We will arrange bus transportation to the Sandia Peak Tram event and the Atomic Museum gala.
  • Most meals will be catered except for the informal Monday evening event, providing additional expected cost efficiencies.
  • The DOE approval process is ongoing. We are very confident that this will fly, but stay tuned for the final green light.

Register for Virtual InterLab, Fall 2012

Registration details for the FREE Virtual InterLab webinar events on November 13 and 14 are provided below. Please note that you need to register separately for each day. Both 90-minute sessions begin at 1:00 EST.

After you register, be sure to go to the GoToWebinar “Test Your Connection” site (http://support.citrixonline.com/en_US/GoToMeeting/help_files/GTM140010). This should help to minimize connection problems on the days of the actual events.

Please communicate this registration information to your peers – email, news items, blog posts, twitter messages, and Facebook entries all work. Get the word out ASAP. Our goal is to get more participation from individuals and groups that couldn’t otherwise make it, and to have representation from each lab and center. We want as many people as we can get to be involved and collaborating, and to build momentum for our next live InterLab workshop in 2013! Thank you for your help in getting the word out.

Sandia.gov Redesign: Key players in sandia.gov’s redesign will walk you through the lengthy process. From selling the idea to executives, to messaging, design, content, to choosing a CMS….and all the bumps, bruises, and successes along the way. We learned a lot and we’re happy to share lessons learned and strategic decisions made along the way.

Day 1’s session will focus on the overall redesign Strategy. Hear how one small idea originated at an Interlab event just like this, and turned into a two-year, multidisciplinary transformation of sandia.gov. We’ll discuss the project plan, pitching the concept to executives, funding, usability and stakeholder analysis, and aligning the site with corporate communications goals. Then, we’ll progress into how we chose to use Cascade as the CMS. Also, learn about the hunt for strong content, the content approval process, and ongoing efforts to ensure content remains high quality and meets industry standards.

Day 2’s session will cover Implementation.  Team designers and developers will discuss sandia.gov’s visual design and how it tied in with corporate branding and other redesign decisions. We’ll discuss the core principles, technologies and challenges of implementing responsive design, as well as the technical implementation of the Cascade CMS: from navigation and browser considerations, to developing workflows.

After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Webinar.

Virtual InterLab, Fall 2012

Because the annual InterLab event is moving to a spring timeframe beginning in 2013, there wasn’t a “live” event this year. However, we hosted a successful online event in the spring and will be hosting yet another FREE Virtual InterLab webinar-based event on November 13 and 14. Virtual InterLab 2012 Wrap-up

Thanks to everyone who participated in the first Virtual InterLab, April 24 and 25, 2012. Despite the unavoidable technical snafu’s, everything went according to plan and we received feedback from attendees that our program focusing on mobile content delivery was right on target. We hope that this event will be model for future online collaboration within the DOE lab complex.
