Thursday, June 6: InterLab Virtual Workshop, Spring 2019

The InterLab Virtual Workshop, Spring 2019 is a series of presentations and panel discussions by web and communication professionals from across the DOE laboratory system (see details below). Presentations will run from 1-4:45 EDST, 12-3:45 CDST, 11-2:45 MDST, 10-1:45 PDST on Thursday, June 6.

InterLab is a group of web designers, web application developers, online communications professionals, and managers of internet resources working throughout the United States Department of Energy laboratory complex and related federal research institutions. Since 1994, InterLab workshops have provided valuable opportunities for DOE web professionals to learn, share, and collaborate.

Thursday, June 6

PNNL’s new intranet strategy  (1:00 – 1:30 EDST, 12:00 – 12:30 CDST, 11:00 – 11:30 MDST, 10:00 – 10:30 PDST) 

PNNL’s Greg Kunkel will discuss his team’s experiences with implementing the laboratory’s latest intranet strategy.

User experience panel discussion  (1:40 – 2:25 EDST, 12:40 – 1:25 CDST, 11:40 – 12:25 MDST, 10:40 – 11:25 PST)

User experience professionals from three labs will share their insights into improving UX and their recommendations for UX best practices.

Migrating SharePoint to the cloud   (2:35 – 3:05 EDST, 1:35 – 2:05 CDST, 12:35 – 1:05 MDST, 11:35 – 12:05 PDST) 

The process of migrating to SharePoint to the cloud can be daunting, particularly for a large and diverse website. ORNL’s Lara James will describe some of the challenges involved in successfully relocating the lab’s extensive SharePoint resources, as well as lessons learned along the way.

 Design systems panel discussion  (3:15 – 4:00 EDST, 2:15 – 3:00 CDST, 1:15 – 2:00 MDST, 12:15 – 1:00 PDST) 

Panelists from several laboratories will discuss their experiences with using design systems to build attractive, usable websites.

Using Agile for project management  (4:10 – 4:25 EDST, 3:10 – 3:25 CDST, 2:10 – 2:25 MDST, 1:10 – 1:25 PDST)

The Agile approach to software development is widely used throughout the national laboratory system. Sandia’s Cara Corey will share her team’s experiences with Agile project management.
